Qian Kun - WayV's Leader

Qian Kun was born 01.01.1996 in Taining, Fujian province, China. An articulate and intelligent child, he displayed a love of entertainment from an early age. He came in first place in a storytelling competition in his kindergarten class, and won first place in a singing competition in his elementary school for 6 consecutive years. In middle school, he was the school's broadcaster, and also became interested in magic and taught himself to be an impressive magician.

He is a self-taught guitarist and pianist, and an accomplished composer. In 2011, he entered a Taiwanese idol competition "The New Xiao Hu Dui" with his production of his original song "故人归 - Old Friend Returns," and made it into the Top 10. He dropped out of the competition to attend school - Beijing Contemporary Music Academy where he majored in Contemporary Pop Music. He joined SM via global audition in Beijing in 2015.

In addition to music and performing magic tricks, his hobbies include cooking and learning about airplanes.

As WayV's leader, he is a steadfast, yet kind and soft presence. He is organized, hardworking, and protective. He endures constant teasing from the younger members, playfully masking the fact that they truly admire and respect him.

As a contestant in "The New Xiao Hu Dui," inhabitants of his hometown excitedly discussed how "someone from Taining is going to make it big!" They are undoubtedly incredibly proud of their Qian Kun now.

Taining UNESCO Global Geopark

Taining UNESCO Global Geopark is located in Taining county in the northwest of Fujian Province. It has a total area of 492.5 square kilometers. The park is comprised of Shiwang, Dajinhu Lake, Baxianya Cliff, Jinraoshan Mountain, and Taining Ancient City. It became an official UNESCO Global Geopark in 2015. Read more about UNESCO's Global Geopark program here.

Taining's geopark features young stage Danxia landforms, granite landforms, and tectonic landforms. It has preserved abundant geoheritages since the late Triassic period, including strata, geological structures, rocks, and minerals. There are also geoheritages that are a result of volcanic activity during the Cretaceous period.

The Danxia landforms are the most characteristic of this geopark, which you can see in gorge-canyons, caves, and red mountains on the water's edge.

Taining Global Geopark staff describe their park as having "colorful cliffs, towering steep peaks, quiet green valleys, marvelous caves, beautiful lakes, wonderful springs and waterfalls, all showing nature's infinite enchantment which is far beyond one's imagination."

The Geopark is of vital importance to the community, collaborating with more than 10 academic institutions, including the Chinese Academy of Geosciences and Fujian Geological Survey, providing valuable scientific research. It is also a popular destination for local elementary and middle school students for scientific field trips, and also hosts a science summer camp for children.

"Taining Geopark has been constantly improving geoheritage protection and management, promoting the development of geotourism, which has enhanced cooperation and communication with the local communities, creating sustainable local economy."
